Mr. Mark Baker is a renowned and celebrated expert in international arbitration, currently serving as the Global Head of International Arbitration and a member of the Global Supervisory Board at Norton Rose Fulbright LLP. His ADR experience encompasses a diverse case portfolio that includes energy contracts, power purchase and sales agreements, construction contracts, project finance, development agreements, joint ventures, and complex financial transactions. Mr. Baker has chaired an average of eight international arbitration cases annually since 1998.

Throughout his career, Mr. Baker has consistently been honored for his contributions. He was recognized by the American Lawyer as one of the 50 most influential lawyers of the decade and as a “Titan of International Arbitration.” His accomplishments have earned him recognition as one of the most esteemed lawyers and a thought leader in arbitration by Who’s Who Legal, Lawdragon, Chambers USA and Chambers Global. He is currently serving in prominent roles with many institutions, such as, the Director of the New York International Arbitration Center, a member of the LCIA Company, a Board member of the Singapore Arbitration Center, a former Executive Committee Member and Director of the American Arbitration Association, a longtime member of the ICC Commission, a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and a member of the CPR Panel of Distinguished Neutrals and CPR Advisory Board and Council, amongst many others.

Ms. Cariana Jones, a Juris Doctor (J.D.) candidate at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, will interview Mr. Baker to gain insights into his professional journey.

Baker MarkMark Baker, Esq. is the Global Head of International Arbitration and a member of the Global Supervisory Board at Norton Rose Fulbright US LLP.

Mark’s expertise and achievements have garnered widespread recognition. In 2023, he was again honored as a thought leader in arbitration by Who’s Who Legal and received prestigious designations from Chambers USA and Chambers Global for his arbitration expertise. He is consistently recognized as one of the “Top 20 International Arbitration Experts” by PLC, and one of the “100 Most Influential Lawyers in America” by the National Law Journal, and internationally ranked for his arbitration work by Chambers Global, Chambers USA, Chambers Latin America, Global Counsel, LawDragon, Legal 500, The International Who’s Who of Commercial Arbitration, The International Who’s Who of Commercial Mediation, and Who’s Who of Oil & Gas Lawyers.

Beyond his legal practice, Mark holds prominent positions in various arbitration organizations. He is Director of the New York International Arbitration Center, a member of the LCIA Company, a former LCIA Court Member, Vice Chairman of the LCIA North American Council, a former Executive Committee Member and Director of the American Arbitration Association, a member of the ICC Commission, a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a member of the CPR Panel of Distinguished Neutrals and CPR Advisory Board and Council, and Advisory Director of the Institute of Transnational Arbitration.

Mark is a frequent speaker and author on international law and international arbitration topics. He holds a JD with highest honors from Duke University Law School and a BA summa cum laude from Yale University.

CarianaCariana M. Jones is a candidate for Juris Doctor (J.D.) at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law with special interest in private international law and ADR. She is Research Assistant to Prof. Ronald A. Brand, the Academic Director of the Center for International Legal Education (CILE). She holds a dual Master of International Business Management & Innovation from Universidad Católica de Ávila (UCAV) and Barcelona Executive Business School (BEBS) in Spain. She earned her B.A. in Political Science and Sociology from Syracuse University.

Before discovering ADR, Cariana worked in Supreme Court litigation and appellate practice in Manhattan, New York. She spent this past summer advocating for survivors of sexual abuse and discrimination in Pennsylvania and New York, specializing in claims brought under the Child Victims Act (CVA). Before this, she taught English throughout Italy and Switzerland. She is currently pursuing her fluency certifications in both Spanish and Italian.
