About David

Ambassador (r.) David Huebner has more than 25 years’ experience as an arbitrator or advocate in international, investment, intellectual property, and complex commercial arbitrations.  Now an independent arbitrator affiliated with JAMS, he previously served as the American Ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa, founding managing partner of law offices in China, chairman of an international law firm, chairman of the California Law Revision Commission, and trade and IP adviser to a member of Japan’s National Diet.  That diverse professional background informs his approach to decision-making, process, and efficiency as a neutral.

Although he has handled matters across a wide range of industry sectors, legal issues, and geographic regions, he has particular expertise in technology, life sciences, media/entertainment, and investment disputes. The Silicon Valley Arbitration and Mediation Center has named him to its "Tech List" of the "world's most accomplished technology neutrals," and he has lectured on arbitration, business transactions, and intellectual property at universities in the US, China, Germany, and New Zealand. He hears cases internationally, maintains offices in New York and London as well as California, and has in the past been based for extended periods in Tokyo, Shanghai, New Zealand, and New York. He has handled approximately 150 arbitrations in more than 30 jurisdictions under the rules of UNCITRAL and various arbitral institutions including ICSID, ICC, ICDR, JAMS, AAA, KLRCA, CIETAC, HKIAC, SCIA, and IFTA.

Ambassador Huebner is a Chartered Arbitrator, a member of the Law Society of England & Wales, and a member of the Bars of California, New York, and the District of Columbia.  He received his J.D. at Yale Law School and his A.B., summa cum laude, at Princeton University.   His CV is attached hereto.
