John W. Garman LL.M, FCIArb, Inaugural Fellow Emeritus Award Recipient

As part of the Best-in-Class series, the CIArb North America Branch (NAB) proudly announces presentation of the Inaugural Fellow Emeritus award to Mr. John W. Garman LL.M, FCIArb for his outstanding and sustained service to the Branch.

Mr. Garman has a long and distinguished record of service to the NAB and is an accomplished international arbitrator, mediator, and educator. His stewardship of the NAB over many years and his tutelage and oversight of the intensive Accelerated Route to Fellowship courses has provided immeasurable benefit to the branch and its members.

Amb. David Huebner, C.Arb, Trustee – Americas Region will present the award to Mr. Garman, followed by a conversation discussing tips and best practices hosted by NAB Chair Ms. Katherine Smith Dedrick, FCIArb. An open Q & A will follow.

John Garman, FCIArb is an arbitrator/neutral who currently teaches international courses part time as Professor at University of Southern California, Gould Law School and University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Boyd Law School. Mr. Garman is a Past Chair of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators North American Branch.  He is a Certified Mediator with the International Mediation Institute and a Neutral on the AAA’s Commercial Arbitration and Mediation Panel. Mr. Garman previously served on the Executive Committee of the International Law section of the California Bar and the IBA Task Force to study and evaluate the text of the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Conciliation. He is “Of Counsel” to Hasch & Partners with offices in Vienna, Austria and Manhattan Beach, California and is admitted in California, the District of Columbia and as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales.

Amb. David Huebner, C.Arb, is Trustee – Americas Region and former Chair of the NAB. His professional background spans legal, international, executive, and academic experience. From 2009 to 2014, he served as the U.S. Ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa.  He has been named to the Silicon Valley Arbitration & Mediation Center’s “Tech List” of the “world’s most accomplished technology neutrals.” Ambassador Huebner is a licensed solicitor in England & Wales and a member of the Bars of California, New York, and the District of Columbia.

Katherine Smith Dedrick, FCIArb is Chair of the NAB. She is an arbitrator, attorney and author. In addition to her law degree, she earned an MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. She is Vice-Chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the ABA. She is the much-deserved recipient of the Business Insurance Women to Watch Award, the Mercedes Mentor Award and the Women With Vision (Law) Award from the Women’s Bar Association and Founder, CEO and Chair of a not-for-profit Women for Achievement and Founder of Pivot 2 Power.
